Ma(s)king a Difference

Description:
Ma(s)king a Difference is an international student-led initiative that was founded in hopes of providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to those in need during these trying times. The program brings together people of all ages, ethnicities, and genders for a collective effort to combat the struggles we see in the community caused by COVID-19. They routinely donate handmade masks and cards to our local healthcare workers, fire and police departments, schools districts, and homeless shelters amongst other organizations.
Since being founded in May 2020, they have donated over 2,000 handsewn masks and 1,000 handmade cards to stunt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they are always looking for more helping hands.
We understand that in these times, volunteer opportunities are extremely limited. As such, we believe that this is a great way to stay active within the community and help out those around you while staying safe.
Ma(s)king a Difference provides three volunteer roles:
Mask Ambassador
- Mask ambassadors sew masks and must follow the Ma(s)king a Difference mask making instructions to produce quality masks. Materials for the masks will be provided by the organization, but mask ambassadors must have access to a sewing machine.

Card Creators
- Card creators engage their artistic talents to make cards that will be distributed among essential workers and those in need. No prior art experience is needed.

Mask Distributor
- Mask distributors accompany the founder of Ma(s)king a Difference to hand out masks to the public. This is the only role that is in person.

The hours that are awarded from Ma(s)king a Difference are entirely based on the honor system. Please be honest and only report the hours that you spent volunteering. Submit proof of your mask, cards, or attendance at the mask distribution to Roy Liao at lroyliao@gmail.com or via phone at 1 650 833 9971.
